Not without a plan in place. Avoid the preventable pressure, pain and shame.

Your celebration of Life falls on a grieving family scrambling for money at the worst possible moment. The WhatsApp appeals. The GoFundMe pages. The community collections.

Is this what you want? No, it's a crazy thought, no one wants.

In reality more than half of the U.K are without a Will or adequate Life insurance in place, if the worst were to happen. In this article, I speak about the cultural norms, the burdens and the disappointing result of NOT being financially ready; with the simple but smart financial planning required from as young as 18.

Funerals in the UK diaspora

Whether your roots are in Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, Ghana, Nigeria or Sierra Leone, across the Caribbean and West Africa, we share the same values when it comes to honouring those we have lost. We do not grieve quietly. We celebrate lives fully lived. We come together, we feed each other, and we send our loved ones home with dignity, with love, and with everything they deserved. That tradition is something to be proud of. It is also something that carries a very real financial weight, one that too many families are completely unprepared for.

I have seen firsthand what happens when a family is caught without a plan. The frantic WhatsApp messages. The GoFundMe links circulating through the group chat. A family deep in grief, suddenly having to think about money and delay all plans. It is devastating every single time. And it does not have to be this way.

The real cost — our numbers

The national average for a basic funeral is £4,285. A burial pushes that beyond £5,000. But those figures do not reflect the...Read More

New Tax Year, New Intentions

A new tax year is not just a financial milestone.

It is an invitation.

For many women, the 6th of April passes without ceremony. Another date in a calendar already crowded with responsibilities. But within it lies something worth pausing for: a natural reset point.

A moment where clarity about your finances can shape the next twelve months of your life.
Financial planning that feels like you is not about spreadsheets and sacrifice.

It is about alignment — ensuring that where your money goes reflects what you actually value.

In other words, April is the time to put your plans into alignment, in proper coodination for the best.

Here are three questions worth sitting with this April:

1. Where am I now, honestly?
Not where you think you should be. Not compared to anyone else.

Simply: what is the current state of your finances — your income, your commitments, your savings, your protection? Awareness is the first act of financial self-leadership.

<p class="...Read More

A Holistic Wellness Lens

True wellbeing is not one-dimensional.

It is shaped by how we think, rest, connect, plan, and lead our lives. Yet for most women — particularly those who are high-achieving, career-focused and holding multiple responsibilities; wellbeing is often the thing that gets left until everything else is done.

This is the invitation to change that.

The Healthy Mind Platter — developed by neuroscientists Dr Daniel Siegel and Dr David Rock — identifies seven essential mental activities that strengthen the brain's internal connections and promote well-being. Think of it as a nutritional guide, but for your mind. When we neglect any one area, the others begin to feel the strain.

The seven areas are: Physical Time, Play Time, Down Time, Sleep Time, Reflection Time, Focus Time and Connecting Time. As you read through them, I invite you to notice — not judge — where you feel nourished and where you might be running on empty. Mindfulness is the thread that runs through all seven.

Mindfulness is not a luxury practice reserved for retreats or yoga mats. It is the simple, powerful act of being fully present — observing your thoughts, feelings and surroundings without judgement or the need to immediately react. It is the pause before the response. The breath before the decision.

Five benefits of regular mindfulness practice:

It reduces stress by creating space between a situation and your...Read More

Don’t Leave Your Income Unprotected

If you’re self-employed, you probably know that your income is your lifeline. But did you know that most self-employed people have no protection in place if illness or injury prevents them from working? Without an employer’s safety net, a sudden break in earnings can quickly lead to financial stress.

Why Income Protection Matters
Income protection insurance is designed to pay a regularincome if you can’t work due to illness or accident. Some policies even cover unemployment. For a monthly premium that can be tailored to your budget, this cover can help:

Reduce stress and worry about finances

Protect your family from hardship

Give you the time and support to focus on recovery

Think of it this way: we insure our cars, homes and gadgets, but our income is what enables us to enjoy these things. Protecting it is just as important — if not more so.

The Self-Employed Challenge
Budget is often a barrier. Many self-employed people find ithard to set aside money for savings or insurance each month. There’s also a lot of confusion — some assume they aren’t eligible for income protection or think it’s too expensive.

The reality is that policies exist for every stage of self-employment and premiums can often be adjusted to suit your circumstances. A little planning now can prevent a lot of stress later.

How to Protect Yourself
Start by reviewing your finances and thinking about therisks to your income. Ask yourself:

What would happen if I couldn’t work for 3 months, 6 months, or longer?

How much income would I need to cover living costs?

Could my family cope financially if I stopped earning suddenly?

<p class="...Read More

Less Clutter, More Clarity: A Gentle Path to Financial Freedom

In a world that constantly encourages us to buy more, upgrade more and accumulate more, many people are starting to ask a different question:

What if having less could actually give us more?
More freedom
More clarity
More peace of mind

Minimalism is becoming a practical way to reduce financial stress and create a life that feels intentional. At its heart, it’s about making conscious choices — about what we own, how we spend and what truly adds value to our lives.

What Is a Minimalist Lifestyle?

Minimalism isn’t about living with nothing or deprivingyourself of comfort. It’s about removing excess so you can focus on whattruly matters. Instead of being driven by habits or social pressure, minimalism encourages you to ask:

Does this add value to my life?

Do I genuinely use or enjoy it?

Is this supporting the life I want to build

Minimalists often live comfortably, but their homes, finances and routines are <span style="color:...Read More
